Wood tile tables from Berlin

Wood tiles are the unique signature of COLB. Self-made squares of lacquered pine, set with mineral grout on a wooden base. Warmth over coolness. Grain over smoothness. Every piece a one-of-a-kind from Berlin-Friedrichshain.

Material

What are wood tiles?

Wood tiles are 10×10 cm or 15×15 cm hand-cut squares of lacquered pine. They are laid like classic tiles with mineral grout on a solid wooden base. The lacquer is available in any colour – the natural grain of the wood remains visible.

Unlike veneer or wooden flooring, the tiles create a clear grid with character. Not an anonymous wood look, but a deliberate statement: each tile individual, each grain different. The technique was developed in the COLB workshop in Berlin-Friedrichshain and perfected in-house.

What makes wood tiles special

Why wood tile tables

Warmth & grain

Unlike ceramic or stone, each tile shows the natural wood grain. Warm, lively, different in every piece. The lacquer highlights the grain rather than covering it.

One-of-a-kind character

Lacquered pine reacts individually to pigment. No two pieces are exactly alike. Anyone wanting to avoid mass-produced furniture finds a piece with genuine individuality here.

Berlin-Original

The wood tile idea was developed by COLB itself. Not mass-produced, not a copy. Hand-cut, lacquered and laid in the workshop in Berlin-Friedrichshain.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about wood tile tables

What are wood tiles?

Wood tiles are 10×10 cm or 15×15 cm hand-cut squares of lacquered pine. They are laid like classic tiles with mineral grout on a wooden base and show the natural grain of the wood.

How do wood tiles differ from ceramic tiles?

Wood tiles feel warmer, livelier and show each grain; ceramic tiles are more precise, cooler and available in over 20 colours. Wood tiles are the unique selling point of COLB; ceramic tiles offer maximum colour variety.

How do I care for a wood tile table?

Wood tile tables are cleaned with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Standing moisture should be avoided. Every few years the wood can be re-treated with oil.

Are wood tile tables water-resistant?

The tiles are lacquered and resistant to brief water contact. They are not outdoor furniture and should be protected from standing moisture – like all wooden furniture.

What sizes are available?

Wood tile tables are currently available as Cube 30 (31.5×31.5×31.5 cm) and Cube 40 (31.5×42×31.5 cm). Cube 45 and Cube 60 can be ordered individually via the configurator.
